Once again, I'm incredibly excited to be able to show off some of the new cards coming in LRAW's latest set, Elder Legends: Providence. Thanks to Taylor and Future Lore Studios, I'm happy to reveal 2 new cards for my favorite legion, in the Divinity Realm!
"I have made sure that the Chaos Divine has their foothold for centuries to come!"
~ Mastema, The Divine Prosecutor
Coin-Operated Boy: armed and ready to destroy
A new piece for the Chaos Divine, Protos is a great card advantage Warrior for the divinity realm, which makes use of two unique cards from RVL and FRT. Sanctuary Of The Ascendants is a solid repeatable Unified Negate, similar to Kabshiel's Favours For The Seraphim, while Lance Of The Lost Messiah is a burn piece, with a restrictive cost. Regardless of which Warlord you're running Protos with, you'll get the most value using them with Astral Gates Of The Ascendants, which lets you activate your Lance for free if you have the Sanctuary in play. With Protos being able to find both pieces, it makes this strategy much more appealing.
Michael may not gain the most value out of Protos, but it's a decent option for the deck to consider if looking to focus in on Chaos Divine pieces rather than Seraphim. Sanctuary Of The Ascendants has been a solid option for Michael, but with Michael receiving his own Unified Negate in ELP, it may have new competition. Additionally, Michael has exciting strong card draw capabilities with the various Wisdom Seraphim Warriors.
While Michael may not need the extra card draw or tutors, this is an incredibly interesting piece to consider in Castiel for several reasons. Castiel has been currently dipping into the Seraphim options for card draw Warriors, and Protos is an easy switch in. Although Plunder is a slight downgrade from Wisdom, the Perish makes up for it, being able to generate 2 cards worth of value. Out of the options, Sanctuary Of The Ascendants is the more immediately appealing one, but Lance Of The Lost Messiah has it's use. While the Lance is pricy without Astral Gates Of The Ascendants, having access to more cards in hand lets you gain additional value off of Acceleration Into The Chaos Divine, and Controlled By The Chaos Divine. While you do generally want to use these effects to trigger your eradication abilities, it's useful to have the flexibility and access to another card in hand.
"A new directive has been received from our forerunner Ascendants: Construction shall begin on The Grand Ascendant Foundry immediately!"
~ Protos, Chaos Divine Automaton
It's kinda like (Retrieve) if you squint
While Protos, Chaos Divine Automaton may not be quite enough to reward using the Astral Gates Of The Ascendants on his own, this new Exalted for the Divinity Realm may be just enough of a push! The Grand Ascendant Foundry has it's own version of Sanctify, picking up counters when your Angel Warriors enter, and turning your Ascendant cards into Chaos Divine. With the Astral Gates, this lets you get a few extra cards from your Sanctuary Of The Ascendants, and The Grand Ascendant Foundry itself.
The most exciting line of text however, is the Once per turn ability, letting you eradicate an Angel card from your discard pile to tutor out a card with the same name. The closest thing that Angels has to a non-archetypal retrieve, with the upside of also getting Warriors.
While Michael has had some access to retrieve abilities with Qaphsiel's Perish ability, the ability to pick up non-archetypal angel cards is a great option to consider. Cards like Help From The Chaos Divine, Bow Of The Archangel, and Chaos Divine Reconnaissance are all great pieces to be able to find again.
Again Castiel may get the better deal here, being slightly more interested in using the Astral Gates Of The Ascendants, and gleaning additional value by triggering eradication effects off of the OPT.
This may be a sort of double edged sword however, as while you can use The Foundry to trigger your eradication effects, you're also less likely to leave your cards in discard compared to Michael. By the time you have access to The Grand Ascendant Foundry, the cards you want to tutor may already be in eradication.
Regardless, this makes the Astral Gates a much more exciting alternate win condition, in combination with Protos, Chaos Divine Automaton.
