In the second ever LRAW Snapshot War Of Attrition online tournament, we've got another great batch of top decks and top player's taking home prizing. Here's the breakdown of what decks showed up, and found success in this tournament test of endurance!
Top 8 Archetype Overview
Making our first place slot is a combo variant of Onoskelis that's been finding some success, with the Force-Draw version of Demons built around the new Wicked archetype pieces from Wintertide Wonders 2025 in combination with existing powerful Bounty and Fallen support.
Krampus, Torment Of The Wicked is a fantastic way to push in burn damage alongside the other 5 Generosity Warriors in the deck, and Majik Void Dark Portal and Steadfast Courage help to crank up the damage.
The other Wicked pieces in this list, Ruderilec, The Wicked Outcast and The Wicked List are also great here to offer additional force-draw effects and damage. The deck also takes great use of the defensive Twilight Package, and especially Paradise Found for survivability.
It's exciting to see this deck to continue to find success past it's initial earlier exploration, and I'm very curious to see if it can hold a stronger metagame position with more continuous attention. Regardless, it's in a category of combo decks that can stress test a metagames ability to interact, and the list may have found success against faster strategies with less focus placed on interactive power.
Blastforge continues to prove itself as a dangerously fast aggro deck, with this build dipping a bit into some new Freakshow support pieces. Big-Top, Freakshow Carnival Carnivore is a new way for the deck to clear away Warriors, but I'm very curious if it offers a notable change from more stock versions of the archetype.
Lundregur, The Fractured Commander is a more exciting piece of interaction that can especially take advantage of the decks ability to mill over it, setting it up for a very low cost. Combined with the Twilight package, the deck can have a surprising number of ways to interact on an opposing player's turn, even with a lower Fortified count.
The core here remains effectively untouched, with Into The Blastforge continuing to fuel out waves of Blastforge Warriors and discard pile synergies. Blastforge Powder Keg is another nice addition, technically able to help with interaction, but more notably able to supercharge the core engine.
I am curious how much of the success of the top 2 decks here is related to a factor of surprise, or whether these fast aggro-combo lists making use of hand trap/Warrior interaction styles through the Twilight Package and Fractured Warriors may be able to climb much more drastically in the metagame in testing. It's also possible that these decks were able to find more success in a tournament environment skewed more towards faster strategies hurt more by Warrior interaction, and less capable of slowing down these all-in strategies.
Ethelhime continues to be one of the most notable aggro strategies in the format, with the deck becoming more and more refined through testing. While the general core is at this point incredibly solidified, there are some interesting variations we can see between the two lists.
Pat's list is a bit more all-in, running less Fortified Cards total, and leaning towards Alehouse Hunting Party and Drowning Sorrows At The Alehouse, while Sylas's build plays a bit more towards Tempo with a few more defensive Fortifieds in the main deck. Notably however, this disparity closes a little when factoring in the sideboard, with Pat's build able to bring in a few more defensive tools and Sylas' having the ability to pull in a bit more explosive power.
With the two lists finishing neck and neck it's pretty difficult to analyze if one particular list was better equipped, but the bulk of the core strategy is very set in stone, and there's a lot of room for pilots to adjust their maindeck/sideboard configuration according to their expected matchups.
While Fandorians are relatively stock at this point, Fando Aggro isn't. This build of the deck leans significantly more aggressive, with a drastically smaller Warrior and Fortified count compared to stock builds.
This version looks to focus more on Ful'Falx, The Fandorian Gladiator as a way to push in a ton of damage through stacking up Armaments.
I'll be curious to see if this style of Fandorians picks up, or if the chunkier dedicated midrangey builds will continue to reign supreme.
The only Control list to make top 8, Jordan's list uses the new Sanctify Core powered by Alexandria, Purifier Of The Heavens and Archon, The Fractured Avenger. This build is significantly more Warrior reliant than Seraphim style builds, but at the same time is significantly better at dealing with board space clogging, especially for Unified cards.
The Swift and Fracture Warriors in the deck also offer a lot of flexibility for attacking all-in aggressive decks.
Land Of The Blessed is one sweet tech card here as an expensive but powerful stax piece to shut down entire turns for an opponent, and it'll be interesting to see if other Angel lists pick it up.
Ethereals continue to find success, with a build of the deck a bit more oriented towards some more standard Primordial pieces.
It's an exciting deck to continue to see put up results, with a lot of potential for dedicated pilots, and especially looks to be one of the best Majik Void Collapse decks in the format, which is particularly notable with the continued success of very Warrior dependent archetypes.
I expect Ethereals to continue to flourish, and for the list to continue to be refined over multiple pilots and placements.
Last but not least is Lost Messiah Tempo, with a build taking advantage of many of the new archetype pieces from Wintertide Wonders, including additions for the Chaos Divine sub package.
Ascendant Ranks Of The Chaos Divine is a notable addition to the deck, especially with being able to combo with Nakir, Angel From The Chaos Divine to form a death loop analog, especially relevant against Undead decks like Vampires. Between this and The Grand Ascendant Foundry, there's room for a lot more grindy power in Castiel Decks looking to commit to the sub package.
