Early Competition In The Big '26
Let's review some of the earliest tournaments of 2026 for both official formats!
We've just had our first Plebe tournament last month, with the next one tomorrow! It's still an early format so it'll take a lot more time to figure out exactly what's doing what in the competitive scene, so it's a wide open opportunity to try some stuff out, and explore the format! If you haven't seen it, check out the Plebeian page, where we'll be organizing all of the competitive comings and goings, with plenty of new resources coming out from Team Shock Wave!
If you haven't been checking out what they're doing, they've got bi-weekly podcast episodes and new videos every week, including on-site tournament reporting! They'll be doing this for both Plebe and Constructed, so make sure to check out their stuff here!
On the constructed half, we've got the results from our first tournament of the year up now, with the Chimera Gaming Battle For Glory! With recent SRL changes, the meta is expectedly fast, and it'll be interesting to see if this velocity will keep up. Some of the stand out decks from the tournament so far include Ethelhime Alehouse Storm, Adramelech Black Magic Storm, Angelica Freakshow Aggro, and Angelica Rogue Tempo, so keep an eye out for those decks as you prepare for a huge list of upcoming events.
If you're interested in a full breakdown, check it out here!
If you're trying to keep up with everything that's going down, check out the LRAW Snapshot competitive event schedule to track upcoming events for both competitive formats.
LRAW Snapshot Mini Deck Tech
We've got another Intro Deck Tech for the New Player Resources, with a deck recently souped up in Masquerade Of The Macabre!
Sylas Belmont
Frost dwarves are shaping up to be one of the premier control decks in the meta game right now. The decks strengths are a lineup of strong warriors with great keywords, like frostbite and snipe, lots of healing, and some incredibly powerful control tools. We also play Genhildr, and with the addition of the new devotions, we have a solid choice for going first or second!
Mulligan Tips:
If you are going first, you want to have a strong opener in your hand, such as One Frozen Winters Night, Reading The Arcane Runes, and Windenmere Island.
Having a few Fortified cards in your opening hand is also a good sign. Going second, having some negate power in the form of Nisty’s Warcleaver is great.
Also finding a fortified you can play from hand helps, either Frozen Fist, or Elemental Frozen Avalanche.
Early Tips & Playlines
Typically your game plan is to do some minimal things on your turn, but mostly set up for your opponents turn, they less they do, the better!
The strongest part of your deck is your incredible fortified package, with Shattered On The Frozen Anvil, Elemental Frozen Avalanche, Frozen Fist, Frostfall Fortress, and if you can find one, Beckon The Mistral Winds. While we don’t play many actual negates, we play a ton of lock down and removal, so even if your opponent thinks they will be playing the game, they likely won’t be.
One strong defensive tool you have access to is the combination of Frozen Adventurer, Freezalina, and Frozen Adventurer, Glacialina. Freezalina can revive Glacialina, and Glacialina can grab your Freezalina back from discard to your hand. Combining this with Onyx Talisman and/or Frozen Hyperborean Hills can even let you heal while repeatedly blocking your opponent's attacks.
Late Tips & Playlines
As for late game, typically you are putting some combination of arms on Warriors, with Frozen Adventurer Pickaxe and Hammer Of The First Forge, and then bouncing those Warriors, to then putting those armaments on other Warriors until your opposing warlord runs out of DCM.
Notably, your veil puts any 2 cards into their owners hand, this makes our turn 3 very strong as there is nothing your opponent can do about it.
Sylas Belmont
You like Jank? You like Jund? You like Jinns? I sure hope so because that’s what you’re reading about right now! Wait hey hey hey, don’t close this tab, keep reading. So anyway, what are the merits of playing this deck? Sure you got some great control tools, can output super solid damage and healing, and all the puns, don’t get me started on the puns. But mostly, you can be a nuisance to your opponents!
TLDR: Be annoying, move things, be annoying again.
Mulligan Tips:
What do you want in an opening hand? Well some key cards you are looking for are Eye Of Sa’Hada, Jann-Marid’s Wishmaking, and Sa’Hada’s Shifting Sands.
These offer you solid draw power, searching for key cards, and your key pieces to do the decks key mechanic, which I like to call “being a nuisance”.
A lot of your game plan revolves around moving cards around, mostly with Shifting Sands, and in doing this you take a lot of game actions, to do a small amount of things.
Early Tips & Playlines
You have some key warriors that often share an incredibly powerful keyword, being Recycle. Most Jinn Warriors cycle between field and deck with extreme efficiency. Additionally, Gangash, Deep North Cheeno, requires you to sacrifice 2 warriors to attack with him, making him a great way to procrecycle. Plus, he has swift.
So now you know about your turn, what about your opponents turn? Oh boy do we got some fortifieds, starting off Jinn Seal Of Sa'Hada is a strong negate that can buff our warlord, and is a great card to set pre-game with Waphoja (The Wap). Our other negates in the fortified slots are 2 Dragon Shimmerwall, to again be a nuisance, and Bottle Of Wishes, a keyword negate with upside. Next up is Awakening Of The Jinn, it makes dudes and draws cards.
Our last category is our Nuisance cards. Both lamps make our Jinn warriors frustrating to deal with, and since we can force opponents to draw cards, Majik Void Dark Portal is great here. Finally, Floating Spires Of Sa'Hada draws cards and turns off your opponents cards, its pretty solid when it works.
Late Tips & Playlines
As mentioned, Majik Void Dark Portal is one way to push in some damage through the Jinn force draw synergies, but there are a few other options. Allure Of The Jinn also can rack up some damage by pinging your opponent for 1 every time a Mythical Beast card is played or moved beside it.
Sa'Hada's Wicked Curse is the other big way to push in a chunk of damage, potentially dealing 12 if you're able to surround it with your Jinn cards.
