Two more additions are here for the Brackus package, with our third Brackus Warrior, and a Generous Guardian here to share the bounty of the Brackus! If you didn't see it, last month we got two Brackus Warriors: Brackus Bitterbug and Brackus Jitterbeetle, which you can check out here! This month, Maj and Brackus Crittercling bring some interest to the rest of the Brackus archetype cards and an appealing attrition engine for aspiring brewers!
Warrior - Atk: 1 **
(Retaliate)
(Perish) - "Search your deck for up to 1 "Sawmill On The Brackus", and up to 1 "Mystic Waters From The Brackus", and add the searched card(s) to your hand."
Guardian - AP: 60 ***
At the start of the game, after mulligans, you can Conscript up to 3 "Brackus" Warriors from your hand to your side of the field. All Warriors Conscripted by this effect gain (Generosity)
(Consume 5)
If your Warlord uses their (SA) for the first time this turn, you can Revive up to 3 "Brackus" Warriors from your discard pile to your side of the field. All Warriors Revived by this effect gain (Plunder)
In the previous article, I talked about 3 of the 5 existing Brackus cards: Blessed By Brackus Waters, Healing Herbs Of The Brackus, and Spirits Of The Brackus Pond. Brackus Crittercling gives some merit to the other two, those being Mystic Waters From The Brackus and Sawmill On The Brackus. Both of which offer the choice of 2 interesting options.
Mystic Waters From The Brackus offers a bit of Consume cost reduction on it's first ability. 5 Consume isn't particularly exciting, especially with the Replenish on Brackus Jitterbeetle, but with Crittercling giving an effectively "free" way to access it, the ability isn't nothing. The second offers a bit more of an interesting ability, recovering 1 DCM for every Brackus card activated. Again, with the DCM recovery of Healing Herbs, this isn't the most exciting prospect, but potentially could be more appealing if Brackus decks are able to "loop" and activate more cards in one turn than I'm expecting.
Sawmill On The Brackus's first ability is the most interesting out the pile, letting you pay 10 AP to tutor any Brackus Card. While Herbs already offers a way to find your Brackus pieces, the extra consistency doesn't hurt. The other ability just gives you a delayed card draw, which isn't particularly exciting, but atleast avoids it being a dead card.
Theoretically this mini package adds 2 Brackus cards to your discard pile, while drawing a card for 5 Consume. While this rate isn't particularly exciting, it does power up your Brackus Jitterbeetle's Perish ability, and Healing Herbs Of The Brackus' DCM recovery. I don't know that this is enough to warrant their inclusion, but ehre is certainly experimentation to be had with these cards in the archetype.
Maj, Magi Of The Brackus is the more interesting option here, giving you a Guardian tailor made for the Brackus archetype. The start of game ability offers a solid influx of cards, at the cost of providing your opponent with the same card advantage. This downside could be alleviated however with the Swipe from Brackus Bitterbug. His Consume ability is much more appealing, and with 60 AP and only 5 Consume for his Consume Ability, you'll be able to use it a lot. Reviving 3 Warriors with Plunder is big, Drawing you 3 cards and using either Jitterbeetle to recover the AP immediately, or Bitterbug to further leverage the card advantage.
With how powerful his Consume ability is, I'm immediately interested in ways to use it as frequently as possible. Both Hero Warlords make for interesting candidates, with a Special Ability cooldown of only 2. Duxvox also lets you use your Special Ability every other turn, albeit at a higher cost.
The place I'm most interested in trying Maj is in an Alero build. With Redemption refreshing your Special Ability every time a you destroy a Warrior by battle, it isn't difficult to use Maj to draw 3 extra cards per turn, while also refreshing your AP and taking cards out of your opponent's hand.
Overall, there's a lot of potential experimentation with the full Brackus Package now, with a plethora of decks that might be the perfect home for the pure resource attrition. While the package may prove too slow to be effective, for the time being it's an appealing option for brewers looking to break the meta.
