Let's go through the new cards being released in Masquerade Of The Macabre for the last four Legions, with Undead, Titans, Mythical Beasts, and Dwarves!
The hosts of the party are here, with the Crimson Vampires! With Rosaline at the head of the deck, the archetype revolves around the (Vampiric) Keyword, letting your Warriors get bigger when they destroy Warriors by battle. The list is looking to be more Tempo Oriented with a lot of the revealed cards relying on staying ahead on board. To bolster this Crimson Coffin and Crimson Coven both protect your Vamps, while Eleanor's Crimson Rebuke provides a strong negate to keep your opponent on the back foot.
The deck looks like it has a solid amount of setup too, Grimke, The Accursed Vampire offers draw on Perish, Vampire Teddy Doom is packing Wisdom, and the list already has Sir Grimm Crimson and Baby Doom to give the deck a consistent amount of draw power.
The list also has a solid number of tutors, with Crimson Coffin to setup your Vampires to revive, and Vampire Lineage Of Castle Crimson to find any Crimson piece while also filling up your discard pile. Demetrius, Vampire Earl Of Tantibus looks markedly strong too, letting you easily get any Vampire you need, directly into play.
The Crimson Vial Pieces are interesting too, with the different ones offering engine power and kill potential, but I'm also a really big fan of the in-discard continuous drain effect. With the deck being likely reliant on on-board early game power, the ability to maintain pressure with the Vials seems fantastic for letting the deck close out grindier games.
The kill power of the deck will remain to be seen, but with (Vampiric) to charge up attack, I could see the deck's Warriors getting big pretty quickly, alongside Daywalker Vampire, Striker Sangua and Vampire Fraulines, Sisters Crimson to push out multiple buffed-up attacks.
The only non-Vampire Undead card, Rosaline, The Fractured Queen is an interesting one, letting you tutor into play any 2 Warriors from your deck. While I don't know that Mortis is particularly interested in this, I could see the more burn oriented Mal'ady decks leaning into Rosaline as a way to pick up setup pieces for Burn or Maus Combo lines.
While it doesn't have a Left Side in the set, Ethereals are one of the other primary archetypes coming in Masquerade, with a wide swath of support cards to build off of the existing Strix pieces.
Emerge From Lethe is a pretty representative card for the rest of the archetype, letting you eradicate an Ethereal Warrior to eradicate cards from your deck equal to it's attack. As a sort of mini version of Primordial Pits, this is a nice way to eradicate your top 6 to dig for more eradication synergy. The archetype overall builds into two main synergies with a 'high attack matters' theme, and sacrifice synergies, letting you build a huge food chain with cards like Ethereal Vampire Bat, Desmodontidae and Krawsh, The Ethereal Predator. Ripples From The Ethereal Plain seems like another key support piece for the archetype too, potentially flooding the board with Tartarian Strix, and letting you bring back eradicated Ethereal Warriors.
Primordials get only one archetypal piece, but it's a doozy with Lyssa, Primordial Goddess Of Rage. Condemn and Encore are both strong keywords for pushing in Battle or Effect Damage, but the real power is in her (Rift) ability. With targeted Warrior eradication in Strength Of Atlas and Titans Tumble to get some easy Rift triggers, I'm expecting to see Primordials continue to be an incredibly powerful force in the metagame.
Unstoppable also gets another Win-condition, with Majik Mask - Unstoppable Innocence. Taxing your opponent for the attack of an equipped Unstoppable Warrior, Innocence pairs very nicely with both Ancient Relic - Shield Of Solidarity and Primordials Hold The Line, but as a difficult combo to run deck space wise, it might be a better consideration for a more dedicated list.
Epimetheus, The Fractured Soul is another one of the Fractured Warriors from the set, and one that looks like a card to keep an eye on with the ability to recycle any Titan cards back from eradication, made especially potent with the Titans' ability to heal, and to easily get Epimetheus into eradication.
The Mythical Beasts are almost divided in two, with support for both the new Sirens, and the new cards for the Jinn/Sa'Hada/Lamp archetype, alongside its new left side!
Jinns are the main existing archetype going into the set, and the new support they're getting looks to be building super well off of their current tools. To support the strong line of Jinn Warriors, Jinns are getting plenty of setup and control tools to fill out their deck. Jinn Seal Of Sa'Hada is a very solid Fortified Negate, that could see some creeping use in other Myth Beast decks, while Eye Of Sa'Hada, Jann-Marid's Wishmaking, and Simia, The Gift-Giver Jinn are all Archetypal tutors for Warriors, Unified and Fortified Cards, and the few cards locked directly to Jann-Marid.
Sa'Hada's Shifting Sands is also a very notable advantage piece to synergize with bounce and move effects.
As for Sirens, the archetype is starting with 4 Warriors, and 2 very enticing cards to Conscript them with. Tempting Tides lets you sweep your Warriors away to potentially pull out a whole board of Sirens at the end of the turn. Siren Warning Bell gives you a way to punish your opponent's on their turn too: Whenever they put a Warrior into play, you get to search your deck for a Siren to match.
Warning Bell also works particularly well with the (Lure) Keyword on Mercury, Hypnotizing Silver Siren, and Morgamora, Siren Undine to pull out more of your opponent's Warriors to keep flooding the board with fish.
For the other Mythical Beast Archetypes, Lamp Of The Mystic Fire Storm looks like a solid value piece for Sh'Lara, and Lady Darksky, The Fractured Dusk is an interesting line enabler in either of the two token decks, but I'm unsure how necessary it'll be. It does look slightly more interesting in Dragons, where despite the high cost on the Fractured Ability, the flexible destruction outlet for your Crystal Dragon Eggs and the ability to put Warriors into play easily certainly offers some interesting strengths.
A party ain't complete without some drinks, and Dwarves are packing plenty with 5 new Alehouse Drinks! Alongside the support for Alehouse in Masqurade, Dwarves also picked up a few nice pieces for all of their other archetypes as well.
That being said, let's start with the main attraction. The 5 Fortified drinks for Alehouse all offer some powerful defensive, and reveal effects to give the deck an even higher potential density for their reveal effects, as well as much more flexibility on the control front. Alehouse Drink - Gin is appealing on both halves, being a defensive tutor for an Alehouse Warrior, perfect for sweeping away your opponent's boardstate with Ladonza. On the Reveal, Gin lets you wheel your hand, which may be especially useful if the deck leans into a much more Fortified heavy build. Alehouse Drink - Vodka is nice as an Archetypal Warrior negate to keep your opponent on the back foot, while Alehouse Drink - Bourbon looks potentially incredibly powerful as a way to reveal Gettin' Tipsy, Gettin' Rowdy.
For the Blastforge, Blastforge Powder Keg is an amazing removal and engine tool, and it would almost be easier to list what it doesn't do. That being said, there technically isn't anything that Keg offers that Blastforge isn't able to setup, so this will more likely be a slight consistency increase, rather than a new strength for the deck.
Frozen gets a fun, and significant, new piece too with One Frozen Winter's Night. The mill ability is nice to chain a little more value, but the real power is in the on-play ability to tutor and conscript up to 2 Frozen Warriors, and making up to 3 Frost Wolves. From my own playtesting, the biggest weakness of the deck so far has been consistent starters, so this is a very welcome pickup for the archetype. Notably, this works very well too with Genhildr and the second static of Unweathered Devotion to give both of the Conscripted Warriors (Plunder).
While the archetype is still in it's infancy, there's a few more neat pieces for the Arcane archetype here, including Sean, The Arcane Fortune Fool as a card that I think might have some potential in Frozen as a way to mill cards and put Warriors into play. (Especially with Genhildr again!) Additionally, while it'll likely take a lot more support to be good, Majik Mask - Arcane Fortune is a card in the set I'm eyeing up for some likely sketchy Dwarf brews!
