Well, we're in the midst of spoiler season for Masquerade Of The Macabre, so lets explore some of the exciting new archetypes poking up in the up set so far! I'll be doing larger spoiler season article at the end of Spoiler Season soon, so today we'll just be exploring some of the biggest archetypes in the set!
Masquerade Of The Macabre Archetype Breakdown
The poster archetype for the set, Vampires are getting some exciting pieces to kick the archetype off, with the potential to come out swinging right at release! With Crimson Coven, Vampire Lineage Of Castle Crimson, Crimson Coffin, and more, the archetype already has some notable engine pieces to let it hit the ground running.
Crimson Vial - Type Beta looks like it has the potential to give the deck some powerful later game draw power, while Crimson Vial - Type Alpha and Crimson Fields look to give the archetype a ton of potential closing power. While it'll be hard to say how the deck will perform immediately on release, there isn't anything blatantly missing apart from the archetype, and I think it'll be a solidly performing list.
The Jinn archetype is also getting some exciting new support, made only more exciting by the existing success of decks currently utilizing a smalller Jinn package. While there aren't a ton of Jinn cards currently in the game, the ones that do exist, like Awakening The Jinn, offer a ton of power, so I'm very optimistic about the potential for the archetype to be quite solid out of the gates.
One of the newly revealed Renowns, Kashan, The Spirit Breaker Jinn especially looks to offer the deck an incredibly powerful Warrior package, which the list should be able to take strong advantage of with Awakening.
A slowly brewing storm, Duxvox might just be getting the pieces he needs for a strong breakout come the release of MOM! One of the biggest current issues with Duxvox is it's setup, consistency, and board reliance, and new engine pieces like Storm Of Smog And Ooze, Duxvox Doomsday Preparation, and Duxvox Operation: Doomsday Downpour offer a ton in the way of consistency to help the deck get it's board setup, and to keep the deck churning through board destruction effects.
Dukka, Duxvox Doomsday Engineer additionally looks notable as a way to control the board and mess with your opponent's Warriors, while also letting you generate even more Doomsday Counters. Lastly, while I'm not familiar enough with the deck to know how strong it'll be, Razor Duxvox Doom-Claws is a really exciting win-condition for the deck, as a great card to stack up your Doomsday Counters onto.
Now, while Jinns and Duxvox have existing support to build off, one interesting archetype popping up in the set is the new Ethereal archetype for Titans! Technically not completely new, Ethereal has been the archetypal tag linking together some Tartarian Strix pieces, but the new additions give the archetype a whole new look!
With a big attack matters theme, Ethereals might be the most Warrior heavy build of Titans so far, with (Devour) Warriors letting you easily clear out other Warriors to keep attacks rolling in! While we'll need to see the deck in action to know exactly what's going on, pieces like Ethereal Primal Roar and Ethereal Vampire Bat, Desmodontidae certainly look powerful enough to make the archetype worth checking out!
The Night Watcher archetype is the last new archetype I'll be showing off here, although there will certainly be more to explore in the MOM spoiler review article, with a really interesting twist on the Divinity Realm. In contrast to the stick-to-the-board style of both Michael and Castiel, Night Watchers have some interesting sac and revive synergies to make use of some very notable Warriors. Invoke The Unholy, Unyielding And Unholy, and Unholy Summons so far make up the bulk of the glue for the archetype, alongside Chaos Divine Reconnaissance.
Out of the revealed pieces so far however, Amariel, Abyssal Night Watcher might be notable enough on it's own as a more generic piece to synergize with Mastema, The Divine Prosecutor and Angelic Blitz Strike, thanks to (Exhume).
Now, there's a whole lot more to talk about with the other 3 Legions, as well as parts of other archetypes in the 5 Legions we've already covered and a whole Majik Mask archetype, but there's a little bit too much for just one article, so I'll be going more in-depth on everything else once spoiler season is done, breaking down the rest of the set!
LRAW Snapshot Mini Deck Tech
We've got another Intro Deck Tech for the New Player Resources, showing off one of the top dogs on the tierlist!
Sylas Belmont
Gaia is currently a very strong control deck, with many tools for delaying and grinding your opponents to a halt. She provides solid control pieces like Reformation, Topaz Amulet, and Land Of Dreams, while also having access to all the Titan “Good Stuff” Her main game plan is dragging games out, dealing incremental damage, and taking better trades then your opponent can, until you form an Unstoppable lead!
Mulligan Tips:
Mulligans in this deck are typically quite simple, you want a Reformation in your hand at least, and Unstoppable Titan War Smash is also a good card to see early.
The only thing you don’t want in your hand is Jasmine, Unstoppable Water’s Beauty, as she needs to remain in the deck for your War Smash.
Other than that, Topaz Amulet is a good control tool to see early, and Pandora’s Box is a great card to see if you are going second.
Early Tips & Playlines
In the early game, you are just trying to draw cards: Titans Tumble, Unstoppable Titan War Smash, and Forever Unstoppable are great cards to see.
Looping revives of Jasmine, Unstoppable Water's Beauty is also a great way to draw more cards and extend your combos.
Land Of Dreams and Topaz Amulet are also great control tools that can help snowball the game into an unwinnable state for your opponent.
Late Tips & Playlines
Late game is when you are looking to extend your lead and push out a victory. Gaia's Unstoppable Presence is your main way of dealing damage, aim to protect it and Latarr, The Daughter Of Destruction, so it burns your opponent on each turn.
Majik Mask - Three Eye Dark, can also deal some hefty damage if you can stick them on some warriors, and Lavictus, The Son Of Sunder, is your silver bullet, he's there when you need him to push out a win.
Use your control tools like Unstoppable Storm Surge, Clash With Unstoppable Darkness, and Titan War - Unstoppable Meltdown to lock your opponents resources down, and Eclipse, Unstoppable Death's Shadow to make sure they cant loop warriors for value.
