With the Elder Legends: Providence metagame continuing to shift and move, let's check out the most recent SRL list update, and the changes made to keep the
A few consistent powerhouses, and one rising star have seen tuning hits to keep them in check in the evolving metagame.
Primordial has had plenty of early success in the Elder Legends: Providence metagame, exceeding other expected rising archetypes like Castiel, Mortis, and Merrisod.
This hit to Primordials Steal Godly Treasures is one half of a strike against the consistency of a deck which currently has access to strong tools against a large chunk of the metagame.
The second hit to Prometheus, and a simultaneous hit to the continually strong Gaia, this other adjustment to the consistency of the Titan archetypes should help to keep them in line with the rest of the metagame more closely.
While we'll have to see how these two hits truly effect the archetypes, it's a move of caution in preparation of these two lists appearing in stronger showing in upcoming tournament play.
An Archetype which has proved a solid competitor throughout GCD and now ELP metagames, Blastforge has had one of it's most powerful tools tuned down, with Blastforge Xtreme as a card selection, card advantage, and combo enabling powerhouse.
Offering a way to both bounce Blastforge cards while finding more, this change should limit the combo potential of the archetype, but by how much will remain to be seen.
Previously limited, another card has been restricted to contain the most problematic play pattern of an existing powerful archetype.
With the continued appearance of Castiel in the Elder Legends metagame, Lost Messiah Corrupt-Sword, Freelia has been tuned down to a single copy. This change most importantly prevents the playline of eradicating two copies on Veil to destroy two Fortified cards before they can be activated. While I support the action of this change in limiting problematic and uninteractive playlines, I do worry for the impact this may have on Castiel's position in the metagame, especially as the archetype has struggled with the coinciding rise in the popularity of Prometheus. I am curious about the potential of a return for Halo Of The Lost Messiah, to preserve the finishing consistency of the archetype, but with a greater degree of potential interaction between players.
With adjustments to keep Sharn in check, one of the two variations of the deck has seen a piece return to maintain it's consistency.
With the hit to Sildud's Call Of The Orcbane in the previous SRL list, we can see a return of a different card advantage piece for Orcs, with Desolation Outpost Of The Outer Rim having a copy returned. With the early success of the Wartorn Wasteland variation of Sharn, we'll have to see how the Boars version now competes with it's newer contemporary, with one suddenly having a much stronger card advantage package.
Three cards have been removed from the SRL list, two being longer residents, and the third a quick visitor.
A hit out of Adramelech's Black Magic archetype, the deck has dwindled in popularity and success. My own experimentation with the archetype revealed to me how vulnerable the archetype currently is, as a one-trick pony with it's main strategy somewhat defanged.
That being said, Adramelech certainly possesses the potential to become heavily problematic in gameplay, and I expect adjustments to buff the archetype to be done extremely cautiously.
Initially hit from Gaia in concerns to earlier card cost rulings, with the ruling adjusted and the card being a reasonable portion of the Unstoppable archetype it's not surprising to see Unstoppable Storm Surge returned to three in simplifying the SRL list.
While Unstoppable remains a powerful archetype when it appears, Unstoppable Storm Surge is not a particular concern regarding the strong factors of the archetype.
While Mortis did see early success in the ELP metagame, prompting a hit to Denial By Doomfire, the deck has seen reasonable containment by other archetypes keeping it in check.
Particularly, the success of Titan archetypes is a constant dampener on the power that Mortis can push, and a return in Doomfire helps to keep the archetypes competitive status.
